MKUltra sounds like the kind of thing invented by conspiracy theorists, but this one is real. During the Cold War, the CIA ran a secret program that investigated mind control, psychological manipulation, interrogation methods, and the effects of drugs on human behavior.

What Happened

MKUltra began in the early 1950s, during a time when the United States feared that enemy governments might be developing brainwashing or mind-control techniques. The CIA wanted to know if the human mind could be influenced, broken, redirected, or controlled.
